This trip is typically based in Quito, although much of our time will
be spent out on the mountains. The climbing varies and is suitable
for those with strong beginner to strong intermediate skills. Previous
general mountaineering experience is assumed. There are some options
on which climbs and routes to attempt from some refuges and camps.
Most trips to Ecuador are in January and have the two or three highest
volcanoes via the standard routes as their goals. This trip is a bit different being in June with a focus
on alternate routes and peaks, but we can include Chimborazo as an objective.
The weather in June can be quite good for climbs in the Occidental
(Western) Cordillera.
I arrive in Quito early to research climbing conditions at the time as well as arrange local logistics.
Please contact me if you have specific questions, including whether your
background is appropriate. All participants receive a variety of
information between registering and arriving in Quito. This will include
passport/visa requirements, travel information such as health and security
recommendations, equipment to bring, average temperatures for the elevations
we'll be at, etc.
Additional non-climbing travel can be arranged upon request. Family members
who do not climb but wish to come along may take tours to the coast or
the rainforest and/or they may go with us to some base camps and hike. Some climbers
may wish to visit the coast or the rainforest following the climbing trip. These
things are not planned as part of the mountaineering trip but can be arranged
if requested.
